I wrote for Naavik about Daybreak’s acquisition of Palia develoepr Singularity 6. Read the full article here.

Why I wrote about this

It’s nice to see acquisitions still happen. Both Singularity 6 and Daybreak have been somewhat under the radar, although both are very respectable businesses.

The gist of it

Enad Global 7 (EG7) announced that its subsidiary Daybreak Games is acquiring Singularity 6, the studio behind the cozy MMO Palia. While the price wasn’t disclosed, EG7’s available cash position suggests a deal likely in the millions or tens of millions.

Palia launched into open beta in 2023 and reportedly reached 3M downloads before its full Steam release. Monetization is limited to cosmetics, and after multiple layoffs, the studio slimmed down significantly, likely in pursuit of profitability as venture funding dried up. Whether the sale was driven by necessity or opportunity, the outcome gives Palia a more durable home.

For Daybreak, the deal fits perfectly. The company has long specialized in operating and monetizing mid-market MMOs like EverQuest, DCUO, and LOTRO. Under EG7 CEO Ji Ham, the group appears increasingly focused on PC/console live service games. This isn’t a return of the M&A frenzy; it’s a targeted, strategic pickup of a rare new MMO IP that already has traction.

Key takeaways

  • Palia had meaningful early traction, but likely not venture-scale financial performance.
  • Daybreak’s strength is disciplined, long-term MMO operations.
  • EG7 seems to be doubling down on PC/console live service over mobile.
  • In a frozen funding market, sustainable live games can still find buyers at realistic prices.
